Managing AnxietyAnxiety is predominantly a psychological process characterised by fear or apprehension in anticipation of confronting a situation perceived to be potentially threatening.
The ability of an athlete to successfully manage their anxiety levels impacts greatly on their performance. In soccer, the goalkeeper is continuously under pressure, even more so in a PENALTY SHOOT OUT. Below is a video that showcases the intense pressure of a penalty shootout, more so, it demonstrates successful anxiety management from the goalkeeper - Mark Schwarzer to get Australia through to their first World Cup in 32 years. World Cup Qualifer - Mark Schwarzer 2 savesNOT managing anxietySometimes, athletes let anxiety get the best of them and this can result in critical errors in performance. Usain Bolt's disqualification during 100m final at the 2011 World Championships is a clear example of this.
